Dauphin County’s Cultural Fest will return to City Island in Harrisburg on Aug. 20, our online story reported. The event will include music, food and dance from cultures around the world.

Bob’s Art Blog highlighted two artists who share a passion for sustainability. In Bob’s July column, read about Phil Wells of Millworks Studio 213 and local jewelry maker Jennifer Hara, here.

The Bridge Ecovillage showed off its “bleacher garden” to state Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding during Urban Ag Week, our online story reported. The garden, located behind The Bridge’s building and former Bishop McDevitt High School, provides produce to local residents in need.

Children of Gettysburg 1863 is a new museum that provides hands-on learning opportunities for kids. In our magazine story, read about how the museum teaches history through books, scavenger hunts, puzzles and interactive displays.

Detweiler Park in Middle Paxton Township is on track to receive a multi-million-dollar renovation, our magazine story reported. The project will include constructing event and gathering spaces, bathrooms, additional trails and other amenities.

Harrisburg’s downtown post office is moving to a new location, our reporting found. Harristown Enterprises announced that the Federal Station Post Office will relocate about one block away, inside of Strawberry Square.

Harrisburg plans to apply for $18 million in state COVID relief funding, our online story reported. The city has proposed using the money for park, pool and Public Safety Building renovations.

Home sales fell this month in the Harrisburg area while prices rose, our reporting found. For the three-county region, a total of 770 houses sold, compared to 826 in June 2021, as the median price rose to $264,050 from $230,000 last year.

The Keystone Inn is Gettysburg’s first Black-owned bed and breakfast, our magazine story reported. The inn’s opening comes at a time when B&B-based travel is surging following the pandemic.

The Maclay Street Bridge is set to be replaced by PennDOT, our reporting found. PennDOT has opened the comment period for the project, which will remain through Aug. 5.

Palmyra resident Richard Powell judges show dogs at the highest level, our magazine story reported. Last month, the 77-year-old was a judge at the 146th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Sara Bozich has lots of live music on the weekend lineup, as Harrisburg University Presents kicks off its summer concert series. Additionally, there are pop-up markets, food truck festivals, art events and something for everyone this weekend.

A Ukraine benefit concert will be held on Aug. 14 at Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, our online story reported. Neighbors Debra Yates and Sheldon Jones organized the concert after deciding they wanted to do something to help the war-torn country.

The”Carpets and Draperies” building in Midtown Harrisburg is nearing the end of construction.

After a long last weekend, this week has flown by! In case you missed any of this week’s news from the Harrisburg area, we’ve got you covered.

Bicyclist Leyla Monroy, who died after colliding with a car in Harrisburg, will be honored at a memorial on Saturday, our online story reported. Organizers hope also to bring awareness to the issue of bike and pedestrian safety.

Bridges spanning the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg may be in for upgrades as the Harrisburg Area Transportation Study (HATS) seeks to use millions of dollars in federal infrastructure funds. In his column, our editor weighs in on the proposals and what each bridge may be best used for.

TheBurg Podcast for July is spotlighting all things cute and fluffy. Tune in to hear from the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area and the Harrisburg Great Dog Program, among other segments.

N. 2nd Street in Harrisburg is slated to transition from one-way to two-way traffic a little later than expected, our reporting found. N. 2nd Street from Maclay to Division streets will go two-way by the end of the month, with the entire corridor likely transitioning in late September.

H*MAC announced its partnership with Live Nation this week.

Not only is it a long weekend, but it’s the perfect time to read our July issue of the magazine, which just came out this week! However you plan to spend the Fourth of July holiday, take some time to catch up on this week’s local news, below.

Federal Building owner Justin Etzin said that he plans to transform the building into a 200-unit apartment building, our online story reported. The building would also include restaurants, a movie theater and a salon.

Fireworks and food trucks are headed to Harrisburg this weekend for the Fourth of July. Find all the details for the day, in our online story.

The Harrisburg Area YMCA announced David Ozmore as the new president and CEO of the organization, our online story reported. Ozmore replaces former president Richard Curl who served in his position for 25 years.

Harrisburg City Council voted down a proposal by local developer D&F Realty for an Uptown apartment building, our reporting found. According to council member Shamaine Daniels, the developer had numerous recent citations for code violations.

Harrisburg is teaming up with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to offer youth a glimpse into conservation careers, our online story reported. The PA Outdoor Corps job development program will run from July 5 to 8 in Reservoir Park.

The Harrisburg School District passed a $223.8 million 2022-23 budget, our online story reported. The budget also included a 3.36% tax hike for the school district portion of the property tax.

H*MAC announced a partnership with Live Nation, a live entertainment company, our reporting found. Live Nation will be H*MAC’s exclusive booking partner for its Capitol Room venue.

An I-83 tolling plan has run into a major roadblock, as a state court has ruled against the PennDOT proposal, our online story reported. In the decision, the court said that PennDOT didn’t give the public an opportunity to comment on the proposal.

Italian Lake is set to become more eco-friendly with a rain garden and wetland area, our online story reported. Harrisburg received a grant from The Giant Company and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful for the project.
