About Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is the first new independent, STEM-focused university to be established in Pennsylvania in more than 100 years. Our founding in 2001 was the start of a long-term mission to attract, empower, and equip the most promising minds from the state, the country, and the world. Harrisburg is on track to become an epicenter of prosperity and progress – and we’re here to help lead the city towards that renaissance.

We provide our students with continuous immersion in practical research, lasting and collaborative connections with peers and professionals, and meaningful experiences that prepare them for excellence in exciting and vital industries. Our students are some of the most driven individuals you’ll find anywhere, and our professors and faculty are scholar practitioners who invest their time and passion back into the community and their respective industries.

As a nonprofit center of higher learning, our focus is on cultivating diverse talent, preparing students to effect change in the real world, and sharing the joy of learning with demographics historically underrepresented in STEM fields. All that we do centers on a strong set of core values, including accessibility, equity, and taking the long view as we confront national and global challenges. One hundred percent of our undergraduates receive a scholarship.

HU’s Commitment to Harrisburg
We’ve been broadening our reach since 2001. Our student body is incredibly diverse, with more than 110 countries represented across four global locations – and 67% of our student body hails from minorities. We’re proud to truly represent the makeup of our region.

Even as we make these global strides, we’ll never compromise our commitment to the city that gave us our start. Harrisburg is becoming a national and world leader in dozens of critical industries, including advanced manufacturing and agriculture, biotechnology, computer engineering, cybersecurity and information technology, interactive media, exercise science, business management, pharmaceutical science, data analysis, and many others. We remain laser-focused on refining the raw talent in our region and empowering new voices to go forth and change the world.

Why We’re a Community Publisher
Becoming a Community Publisher for The Burg was a no-brainer. Our faculty and staff regularly have great news to share, including the discoveries and impacts they’re making in high-tech, scientifically driven industries. Our graduates emerge from our halls ready to take on the world, and we love sharing their good news with the community as well. As we invest in the Capital Region, and you invest in us in return, it’s only fair that we show the community how their faith in us is being tangibly and meaningfully rewarded.

We work with the Commonwealth of PA, the Department of Health, UPMC, and many others to create lasting networking and educational opportunities. HU is also proud to host or sponsor many one-off and recurring events, such as academic workshops, summits, competitions, professional development seminars, and our HU Presents concert series, taking place at celebrated local venues like the Whitaker Center, Club XL, and The Forum. We look forward to sharing the good word about these opportunities as well, as we expand our role as a facilitator of education, empowerment, and entertainment in the region.

Ultimately, our role here is to show you, the reader, how HU is flourishing thanks to your gifts of trust and support, and to provide a glimpse into the exciting present and the promising future of Harrisburg and Pennsylvania.
