Harrisburg communications director dismissed after reports she sent email critical of city leadership

Harrisburg’s communications director has been officially fired from her position as of Thursday.

The city’s business administrator, Antonio Megna, told TheBurg that Mischelle Moyer was no longer employed as of today, following her being placed on administrative leave by the city last week.

Megna declined to comment on the reasoning for letting Moyer go.

Several news outlets last week reported that anonymous sources linked Moyer being placed on leave to an email that she sent to City Council that was critical of Mayor Wanda Williams and other city officials.

When asked by TheBurg on Tuesday, council President Danielle Hill said that Moyer had given the council clerk an anonymous letter, which Hill instructed the clerk to send to all council members and City Solicitor Neil Grover. Hill said that the contents of the letter included concerning information that she wanted the law bureau to review.

Moyer had served as the communications director of the city since December 2024.

Megna said that the city would post the now-vacant job position online in the coming weeks. In the meantime, media inquiries should be directed to Assistant Communications Manager Maryah Burney, Megna said.
