Harrisburg and local officials ceremonially broke ground on the “Coronet Park” project downtown.

Harristown Development Co. shared its plans for “Coronet Park,” our online story reported. The company will build a park for events and concerts in an empty lot just off Market Square on S. 2nd Street.

Lewis Butts Jr. announced his write-in campaign for mayor of Harrisburg, our story reported. Butts ran for the Democratic nomination in the primary, but was unsuccessful.

Christmas market planned for Harrisburg’s SoMa neighborhood, with shopping and Santa

A past SoMa Christmas Market

While it may just be fall, the holidays are just around the corner, and one festival is getting ready for the holly jolly.

The SoMa Christmas Market will return to downtown Harrisburg on Sunday, Nov. 30, bringing shopping, food and, of course, Santa.

The event, hosted by Sara Bozich and Harristown Enterprises, will take place on S. 3rd Street, between Market and Chestnut streets.

Over 30 vendors will line the street selling handmade goods and gifts. Additionally, DJ EMD will be playing holiday music and Santa will be on site for photos. Food and beverage vendors will be there to serve attendees as well, including 717 Tacos, Cousins Maine Lobster, Madeline’s Sweets & Savories, HOLLA Spirits, Royal Winery and Shy Bear Brewing.

SoMA businesses will be open during the festival as well.

The festival runs from 12 to 4 p.m. and is free to attend.

The Week that Was: News and features around Harrisburg

The homeless encampment in south Harrisburg was cleared this week.

This week has brought lots of local news and features and we hope you’ve appreciated our community-focused coverage. If you missed any of our reporting, you can find it below.

Broad Street Market reconstruction is slated to begin at the brick building in the coming days, our magazine story reported. Harrisburg is weighing a plan to come up with the money for contractors.

City Council on Tuesday approved a plan to reconstruct the Rabbittransit facility on Cameron Street in Harrisburg, our online story reported. Additionally, council approved a downtown project that will turn two office buildings into apartments.

Elementary Coffee Co. celebrated its purchase of its North Street shop, advocating that more small businesses should have the chance to own their buildings. In our online story, the former owner, Matt Krupp, reflects on the extensive renovation of the building and encourages more community members to prioritize revitalization.
