Community members of all ages can connect over faith, fellowship and fun at an event this weekend.
The Trinity Church of Harrisburg is celebrating its 15th Community Day on both Aug. 1 and 2 to serve with a special focus on the needs of families, children and elderly residents.
Marsha Blackston, associate pastor of Trinity Church in Midtown, emphasized the importance of helping one another in uncertain times.
“We live in a time and place where so many are underserved, and where many of the resources people need are not always available to them,” she said. “We try to arrange a day of fun, food and fellowship for members of our community.”
The event will be held Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. According to Blackston, this is the first year the church has decided to expand the event over two days.
On Saturday, the activities will include a live DJ, bouncy house, games, free haircuts, face-painting, nail art, crafts, a dunk tank, a step class, music and a prayer tent. A new addition this year will be a craft experience called “Bloom Where You’re Planted”, where Blackston said children can plant a flower and understand that wherever you are in life, God can bring you through it and help you bloom beautifully.
Additionally, there will be tables where non-perishable foods will be bagged up and given out to take home.
On Sunday, there will be an outdoor worship service with tents outside, along with ice cream sundaes being distributed afterwards.
There is no registration for the event and all are welcome.
“We try to have a spirit of giving and loving and try to meet the needs of the community. We hope they might be enlightened to say, ‘Is this what church is about?’ and be drawn to Christ,” said Blackston.
