The Harrisburg school district’s chief financial officer will leave her role in the coming months for an equivalent position in Lancaster.

Marcia Stokes was hired in Harrisburg in January 2022 and helped guide the district out of receivership. She was officially hired last night by the Lancaster school district, which faces a multi-million dollar budget deficit this year. Stokes’ transition is set for mid-September.

Superintendent Benjamin Henry thanked Stokes for her time working for the district, acknowledging her role strengthening budgeting practices, improving fiscal transparency and ensuring financial decisions lined up with education goals.

“Dr. Stokes has been a steady hand and a tireless advocate for our district,” Henry said. “She leaves us in a far stronger financial position than when she started, and behind every balanced budget was a leader who cared deeply about what those numbers mean for our students. We thank Dr. Stokes for her dedication and wish her every success in Lancaster.”

District officials said they will share more information surrounding the transition of the chief financial officer role in the coming weeks.
