School supplies drive to fill backpacks for Harrisburg students

Supplies previously donated from the “Renewal Cares Back to School Drive”

Changing children’s lives can start with a pencil and paper.

The Renewal Cares Back to School Drive, now through Aug. 15, will collect supplies for Harrisburg students in need.

Renewal by Andersen of Central PA and The Birner Group are hosting the drive and are collaborating with Harrisburg-area nonprofit All You Can Inc. to distribute the supplies to area families.

According to Renewal by Andersen, the increasing prices of essential household purchases and back-to-school supplies are causing obstacles for low-income families, especially those living in poverty.

Research shows that children owning their own school supplies can enhance grades, creativity, attitude towards learning, behavior, peer relationships and self-image, Renewal by Andersen said, in a release.

“Every child deserves to begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed,” said Austin Birner, CEO of The Birner Group. “Every contribution to our Renewal Cares Back to School Drive helps support Central Pennsylvania students and families who need it most.”

The requested student supplies includes new backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, scissors, 3-ring binders, loose-leaf paper, lunch boxes or lunch bags, notebooks, glue sticks, erasers, water bottles, pencil boxes or bags, pencil sharpeners, rulers, calculators with packs of batteries, folders, gift cards, ear buds and other classroom essentials.

On Aug. 22, from noon to 2 p.m., All You Can Inc. will distribute the donated supplies to pre-registered families at 522 S. 22nd St., Harrisburg. Families who wish to participate in the distribution event must pre-register online.

All donations may be dropped off during regular business hours, Monday through Saturday, at the Renewal by Andersen of Central PA Mechanicsburg Showroom, located at 4856 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg.

Supporters who prefer to donate online can purchase school supplies here, through the campaign’s Amazon Wish List, and have them shipped directly to the showroom for distribution to local students.

“We are incredibly grateful to Austin, Linda and the dedicated team at Renewal by Andersen of Central PA/The Birner Group for their continued commitment to empowering local youth and supporting families in need,” said Ralph Rodriguez, president of All You Can Inc. “Their generosity makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the students we serve.”
